Atlas Underlayment & Deck Repair: The Dallas Owner’s Guide
We stock and install Atlas-compatible underlayment and deck repair products across Dallas, with typical installed pricing between $450 and $1,200 depending on the extent of the deck damage and the Atlas underlayment line your roof requires. Most Atlas underlayment or deck repairs are completed the same day once we’re on site, because the materials are already on the truck. Homeowners usually discover this failure when they spot a soft spot from inside the attic, see water staining on the ceiling after a North Texas thunderstorm, or notice the underlayment peeling back at a roof edge after a wind event.
Which Atlas Models This Applies To
Atlas manufactures several underlayment lines, and each has specific installation requirements. The one you need depends on what’s already on your roof. The three most common in Dallas are Atlas Summit 60, Atlas WeatherMaster, and Atlas GlassMaster. Summit 60 is a synthetic underlayment with a slip-resistant surface, rated for long-term exposure before shingles go down. WeatherMaster is an asphalt-saturated felt that’s been on Dallas roofs for decades. GlassMaster is a fiberglass-reinforced felt that holds up better against tearing during installation.
The compatibility gotcha: if your roofer originally installed Atlas Summit synthetic underlayment and a section fails, you shouldn’t patch it with a standard #15 felt. The synthetic and felt products handle moisture differently, and mixing them creates a weak seam. We match the replacement to what’s already on the roof, not whatever is cheapest on the shelf. For deck repair, Atlas specifies their underlayment over APA-rated plywood or OSB decking at minimum 7/16″ thickness. If the decking is thinner, the underlayment will move and eventually tear.
We’re an independent Dallas roofing contractor, not affiliated with Atlas. What that means for you: we stock genuine Atlas underlayment and quality aftermarket deck materials, and we’ll tell you which one makes sense for your roof and budget before any work starts.

Signs Your Atlas Underlayment & Deck Repair Is Failing
- Water staining on ceilings or attic beams. This usually means the underlayment has been compromised somewhere above the stain, and water is traveling along the deck until it finds a seam or fastener to drip through. The leak you see is rarely directly under the failure point.
- Soft or spongy decking when walking the roof. OSB and plywood absorb water and lose structural strength. If the deck flexes underfoot, it’s past drying out and needs to be cut out and replaced before new underlayment goes down.
- Underlayment peeling or flapping at the eave or rake edges. Dallas windstorms with 60-plus mph gusts tear underlayment that wasn’t properly secured at the perimeter. Once it lifts, rain gets under it and the decking starts rotting from the top down.
- Granule loss or exposed fiberglass on Atlas felt underlayment. Older felt underlayments break down under North Texas UV exposure if the shingles above them were damaged. The felt gets brittle and cracks, and every crack is a water path.
- Visible deck seams through the underlayment. When the underlayment is stretched too tight or the deck joints are uneven, you’ll see a ridgeline pattern. Those ridges wear through first and create channels where water pools and penetrates.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Dallas, Atlas underlayment replacement runs $450 to $800 for most roof sections up to about 500 square feet. If deck repair is required, add $3 to $5 per square foot of decking that gets cut out and replaced with new OSB or plywood. A typical deck repair patch of two to four sheets adds $150 to $450 to the total job.
Your written price includes: tear-off of the failed underlayment or damaged deck section, inspection of the deck below for hidden rot, installation of new Atlas underlayment matched to your existing product, re-securing or replacing fasteners, and clean-up of all debris. We put the number on paper before any work starts, and it does not move at the door. If something changes once we open the roof, we stop and walk you through it with a new number before we proceed.
DIY or Call Us?
A homeowner can safely check a few things from the ground: look for underlayment flapping at the edges, check the attic for stains after rain, and note any soft spots you feel if you’re comfortable on a ladder to inspect the eave. What’s not safe is walking a roof with suspected deck damage. Rotted decking can give way without warning, and a fall from a single-story Dallas roof is still a hospital visit.
Repairing underlayment properly means pulling the shingles above the failed section, cutting out the bad deck, installing new material, and re-laying and sealing everything to code. Get it wrong and the next storm finds the weak seam. If you’ve got water in the attic or soft decking, call us at (903) 499-4441 and we’ll come look. The estimate is free, and you’ll have a written number before you decide anything.
FAQs
Atlas underlayment typically lasts 20 to 30 years in the Dallas climate when properly installed under intact shingles. The North Texas problem is hail: once shingles get shredded by a hailstorm, the underlayment below takes direct sun and weather, and its lifespan can drop to months. Call (903) 499-4441 if your roof took recent hail and you’re seeing staining or peeling at the underlayment level.
Small tears can sometimes be patched with the same Atlas product and proper overlapping, but patching only works if the deck below is dry and solid. If the underlayment has been exposed long enough to crack or the deck feels soft, patching just hides the problem. We’ll tell you straight which one applies to your roof, and the written estimate reflects only what’s actually needed.
Most Atlas underlayment repairs in Dallas are completed in half a day to a full day from the time we start pulling shingles. If the deck repair is extensive, the job may stretch into a second day. We give you a time window in writing with the price, and our technicians show up inside it.
Yes. Our trucks carry Atlas Summit synthetic underlayment and common deck repair materials as standard stock, along with products from GAF, Owens Corning, and CertainTeed for roofs that need a different match. That means most Atlas underlayment and deck repair calls in Dallas are done in a single visit. Call (903) 499-4441 for a free estimate, and we’ll confirm what’s on the truck for your roof.
